FAQs
What sets marine carpet and flooring apart from standard residential carpet?
Marine-grade flooring is specifically engineered to endure the harsh marine environment without fading or deteriorating. It is made from PVC and/or solution-dyed fibers enhanced with UV stabilizers to protect against extreme sun, salt, and moisture. The backings used in marine flooring are uniquely designed for various applications, such as wrapping around pedestals and boat contours or laying on top of a finished fiberglass floor.
Does AquaTraction get stained? How do you clean it?
No, AquaTraction does not stain. It can be cleaned easily with a boat brush and water. Unlike competitors’ EVA/EVA PE blend foam, AquaTraction is made from 100% PE, which makes it completely closed-cell and stain-resistant. For tougher stains like Sharpie or wood stains, use a stiff brush and Simple Green. For the most difficult stains, a 50/50 mixture of bleach and water can be used.
What is light amplification and how does it affect AquaTraction?
Light amplification occurs when sunlight reflects off nearby surfaces and creates a concentrated beam of light that can exceed 180 degrees, potentially melting AquaTraction. This is similar to the effect of using a magnifying glass with the sun. Our competitors’ foam melts at 160 degrees. Though rare, our estimators check for this issue during the initial visit and offer solutions. AquaTraction provides a one-time warranty for light amplification, and clients must work with us to resolve the issue.
How long does AquaTraction last?
In Florida, with average use and maintenance:
- Stored with a cover: 7-10 years
- Stored uncovered: 5-7 years
How long does it take to install AquaTraction?
From the digitization of your boat to the installation day, it takes 2-4 weeks. This is much faster compared to our competitors, who typically take 8 weeks or more.
Do I need to remove my existing floor to install AquaTraction?
Depending on the type of existing flooring:
- Bare nonskid fiberglass/gelcoat: No steps needed.
- Teak/Wood: Needs to be sanded smooth and coated with clear epoxy.
- Plas-teak: Must be completely removed.
- Glued-down carpet: Remove the carpet and sand away the remaining fibers; epoxy coating may be required.
- Snap-in carpet: Remove pads, unscrew snaps, and fill holes with epoxy.
What is light amplification and how does it affect AquaTraction?
While AquaTraction puts effort into ensuring their product doesn’t fade, the following colors are not warranted for fading:
- Red
- Orange
- Royal Blue
For these colors, it’s recommended to keep your boat covered during storage.
What is the importance of floor preparation for AquaTraction installation?
Proper floor preparation is crucial for the longevity of your new decking. While SeaStep will guide you through the necessary steps, it is the client’s responsibility to ensure the floor is ready for installation. If our installers determine that the floor is inadequately prepared at the time of installation, we will reschedule and provide guidance. A trip fee of at least $100.00 may be charged for the incurred travel and time.
